I’m sorry mother, I have sinned in all the most glorious ways

I tried to abide and stay by your side, but then I saw his face

Together you and I sowed the land and reaped the gifts of the earth

But the world opened up, he took my hand, and extended further worth

I am a product of the King of the Gods and the Mother of all the Land

Upon my own two feet, and by my own choices, I never really did stand

I followed your ways, I learned your trade, all to be a good daughter

But in the end there is more to do than bringing the plants their water

My splendor and bounty was that of a myth

The life I was living was not something to contend with

I cared for the plants and knew so little of love

But my savior would not come from Olympus above

The dirt ripped open with my feet at the precipice

There was such an exhilaration, it was like I had already felt his kiss

He enticed me, it’s true, but it was a proposition too great to pass

I wanted power, and he guaranteed me enough to last

He is dark, I am light, he death and I life

You would think together there would be nothing but strife

That’s not the case, though, we are two sides to one coin

And the planet does tremble when our powers, they join

My place was solidified with the sweet nectar of pomegranate

But I know my life must hold many facets

Everything that blooms must have a rest

And when I come back up from below the plants will be at their best

Mother, once again we will cultivate all that there is in the world

But I cannot pretend I am nothing but your little girl

I am Persephone, daughter of all that lives and queen of all who dies

This existence is my ultimate prize
